Press Release (June 22, 2012): East Marsh Community First Programme

The Community First Programme in East Marsh was launched in April and since then nine projects, valued at over £12,000 have been approved by the local funding panel and submitted to Community Development Foundation for final consideration. In order to be successful, funding applications have to address community priorities, as well as the overall aims and objectives of the Community First programme, which include communities helping themselves, increasing the number of community groups, and supporting local projects which improve quality of life for residents.

Projects recommended for funding in this first period have included a street party, community group gardening  projects, purchase of youth club equipment, future employment of a youth worker to support residents in a new youth club, production of a youth magazine and a  basic cookery skills training course for young people.

This programme, can potentially provide a further £85,000 in funding for projects in the East Marsh area during the next three years. Community groups and not for profit organisations working in East Marshare eligible to apply for funding between £250 and £2500.

Steve Beasant, chair of East Marsh Involve Neighbourhood Forum said  “The funding which is being made available for projects in the East marsh is great news. It provides opportunities for projects in a difficult financial climate, but at the same time groups will need to demonstrate community involvement as part of the match funding requirement of the fund.
